A buck injured a girl in Yosemite National Park after she approached the wild animal.

Park rangers said on social media Wednesday the girl recently visited and approached the buck, which was being fed by other visitors. The buck became startled and its antlers struck the girl’s arm, causing deep lacerations and chest abrasions.

Rangers said the girl was treated at the Yosemite Medical Center and later taken to a nearby hospital.

Rangers sent out a warning:

“It is illegal to feed or approach wildlife in Yosemite! While some animals, including deer, might get used to people approaching them, they spook easily and will defend themselves if people get too close or startle them.”

Rangers also advised to keep a distance away from wild animals.
