Yosemite National Park reopens roads following closures due to stormy weather
Yosemite National Park reopened Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road on Monday.
Yosemite announced last week that both roads would temporarily close Thursday evening due to coming storms, and that the closures would be reevaluated over the weekend and the roads reopened “as soon as it’s safe.”
Tioga Road is Highway 120’s continuation through the park that stretches over the Sierra Nevada to the Eastern Sierra.
Park officials on Monday warned that motorists on that road should use caution due to icy conditions. Tire chains weren’t being required on Tioga Road, although officials cautioned that there was ice on the roadway between Gaylor Pit and Tioga Pass.
In addition, for both Tioga Road and Glacier Point Road, Yosemite officials said there is “no overnight parking anywhere on the road or adjacent parking lots starting October 15.”
Tioga Road reopened first, followed by Glacier Point Road later Monday, according to road updates on Yosemite’s website.
Glacier Point Road begins at Wawona Road (Highway 41 outside Yosemite). The Wawona Road, which leads from Wawona to Yosemite Valley, remains open, along with other park roads.
The National Weather Service reported a 20% chance of snow showers in Yosemite Valley on Monday night. A wind advisory was in effect Monday in the nearby central San Joaquin Valley.
