Two fires near Yosemite burning with 0% containment. Here’s the strategy to fight them

Two fires near Lukens Lake off Tioga Road in Yosemite National Park continue to burn with no containment, the National Park Service reported Aug. 14.

The Blue Jay Fire is one mile west of the lake at an altitude of 9,000 feet, and the White Wolf Fire is a mile south of the White Wolf Campground and about two miles west of the lake, according to the park service.

The first fire started July 24 and the second Aug. 11.

The park service is attempting to confine and contain both blazes to remote areas of the park, utilizing natural barriers such as granite and bare ground.
