The California Highway Patrol in Merced had a busy graveyard shift recently, which resulted in an arrest of an impaired driver, a recovery of a stolen vehicle and the confiscation of a stolen handgun.

The busy night started when CHP units spotted a stolen vehicle in Merced County, near Highway 140 and Carole Ave.

When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver jumped out and ran. After a brief search, officers located the suspect and took them into custody, according to a CHP Merced Facebook post.

A short time later, the same CHP unit observed a vehicle weaving on Winton Way near Myrtle Ave. A traffic stop was conducted, and the driver was determined to be under the influence.

During the investigation, officers also recovered a stolen handgun from inside the vehicle, the post said. A loaded magazine was also recovered; the suspect was arrested.
