A person was killed, and two others injured in a fatal crash Friday afternoon on Hwy. 41 in Kings County, said CHP.

The crash was reported Friday at 4:50 p.m. on Highway 41, north of Quebec Avenue, outside Stratford in south Kings County. CHP officers and emergency personnel responded to the scene.

According to the CHP, a woman was driving a 2020 Honda Pilot when the driver began to overtake another vehicle by entering the south traffic lane when another vehicle traveling south on State Route 41 approached the Honda Pilot.

CHP said the driver of the Honda Pilot did not have sufficient time to safely pass, making an unsafe left turn and continued traveling in a northwesterly direction, leaving the paved portion of the roadway.

The Honda Pilot overturned into a dry canal on the west side of the roadway. One of the passengers in the Honda Pilot sustained fatal injuries, the CHP said.

The driver of the Honda Pilot and another passenger sustained moderate injuries and were transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia for medical treatment.

The identities, ages or city of residence of the driver, and passengers of the Honda Pilot, were not released as of Monday.

Alcohol and/or drugs are not suspected to be a factor in this crash, the CHP said.
