The fatal mauling of Tyler Griffin-Huston in Yuba County on Sunday again spotlights attacks by dogs on humans. The following are statistics about the number and nature of those attacks in the United States.

Though defenders of pit bulls say that type of dog is unfairly singled out as excessively dangerous, statistics here show that it is, by far, the largest source of attacks on adults and children.
