Earn up to $15,000 a month? CA is hiring for these state jobs with remote work

Are you looking for a new job in the new year?

Several California state departments are now hiring for positions that offer remote or hybrid work options.

Although Gov. Gavin Newsom issued a return-to-office order, some union agreements allow many state employees to continue working remotely through June.

As of Thursday, Jan. 8, California was hiring for multiple full-time positions that include telework or hybrid schedules.

State jobs are known for their competitive benefits and enrollment in the nation’s largest public pension plan.

Many positions have specific qualifications, which are linked below.

Here’s a look at some of the latest California state job openings with telework and hybrid options on CalCareers as of Jan. 8:

Which California state jobs offer remote work?

Assistant underwriting manager | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Compensation Insurance Fund
  • Location: Los Angeles County
  • Salary: $7,580 to $9,416 per month
  • Application due date: Thursday, Jan. 15

The assistant underwriting manager oversees a team of underwriters and support staff to help the department provide workers’ compensation insurance to customers.

Responsibilities include collaborating with other departments to support companywide objectives and overseeing regional underwriting to meet budget goals.

There is telework available with this position, according to CalCareers.

Associate facilities analyst | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Judicial Council of California
  • Location: San Francisco County
  • Salary: $6,909 to $9,673 per month
  • Application due date: Jan. 18

The associate facilities analyst manages the department’s real estate by making sure leases for owned properties are handled correctly and on time.

The position reviews lease agreements, tracks rent payments and updates property data in management systems.

Hybrid work is available, according to the CalCareers website.

Branch administrative coordinator | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Public Health
  • Location: Contra Costa County
  • Salary: $6,031 to $7,547 per month
  • Application due date: Tuesday, Jan. 13

The branch administrative coordinator helps prevent childhood lead poisoning by assisting with program planning, service delivery and risk assessments.

Other duties include coordinating activities, processing documents, organizing meetings and reviewing materials.

A hybrid schedule is available, according to CalCareers.

Casualty actuary | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Insurance
  • Location: Anywhere in California
  • Salary: $11,092 to $14,723 per month
  • Application due date: Thursday, Jan. 15

The casualty actuary handles insurance analysis projects, focusing on insurance rates.

The actuary performs a variety of analytical and consultative tasks for the California Department of Insurance, along with providing support on special projects.

This position is designated as remote-centered.

Cloud architect | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Technology
  • Location: Sacramento County
  • Salary: $11,388 to $13,842 per month
  • Application due date: Friday, Jan. 16

The cloud architect oversees the infrastructure team to make sure California gets the most out of its information technology services.

This includes managing cloud-based IT services, standardizing computing and storage systems and making sure security and technical standards are met.

Environmental scientist | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Toxic Substances Control
  • Location: Orange County
  • Salary: $4,418 to $9,321 per month
  • Application due date: Jan. 21

The environmental scientist reviews environmental studies and reports to make sure cleanup projects follow approved plans and laws.

Duties include analyzing scientific data to understand risks to people and the environment; helping decide the best cleanup approach and making sure project costs are accurate and paid.

“A hybrid schedule may be available for this position,” according to CalCareers.

Executive program analyst | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Compensation Insurance Fund
  • Location: Anywhere in California
  • Salary: $6,031 to $7,775 per month
  • Application due date: Tuesday, Jan. 13

The executive program analyst helps support state programs and improve how the department operates.

Duties include analyzing processes and solving issues, along with helping plan the department’s budgeting, workflows, systems and other operational projects.

“This is a teleworking position which requires occasional (monthly) travel to executive and board meetings,” CalCareers said. “Occasional overnight travel may be required.”

Forest property appraiser | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Tax and Fee Administration
  • Location: Shasta County
  • Salary: $6,330 to $7,929 per month
  • Application due date: Until the position is filled.

The forest property appraiser tracks timber and forest product markets to help determine the value of harvested wood across California.

Duties include supporting the state’s timber tax program by making sure taxes are calculated accurately.

“This position may be eligible for partial telework for eligible candidates residing in California,” CalCareers said.

Leadership developer and designer | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Motor Vehicles
  • Location: Sacramento County
  • Salary: $3,861 to $6,464 per month
  • Application due date: Wednesday, Jan. 14

The leadership developer and designer helps create and deliver online training for the California Department of Motor Vehicles through DMV University — which is its learning system.

Duties with the role include designing courses, improving training programs and working with different departments to meet training needs.

“Part-time telework available,” CalCareers said.

Loss prevention engineer | Permanent, full time

  • Department: State Compensation Insurance Fund
  • Location: Alameda County
  • Salary: $9,713 to $12,151 per month
  • Application due date: Jan. 20

The loss prevention engineer helps keep workplaces safe by providing health and safety support to policyholders and client accounts.

The role focuses on identifying workplace risks and recommending changes to prevent employee injuries and illnesses.

Telework is available for this position, according to CalCareers.
