San Luis Obispo police officers caught a 13-year-old who was allegedly riding a non-street legal electric motorcycle without a license on Jan. 1, 2026.

A 13-year-old riding an electric motorcycle with a 10-year-old on the back was caught by San Luis Obispo police on Thursday after trying to evade officers at speeds up to 40 mph, the department said.

Police officers spotted the teen riding a Talaria e-motorcycle with the younger child seated on the bike’s rear fender, the Police Department said in a social media post on Monday.

Once the rider was apprehended, both kids were taken into police custody until their parents were located, the post said.

The e-bike, which is not a street-legal vehicle, was impounded, according to the department.

The SLO Police Department said the rider was cited for driving without a license and for driving a non-street-legal “pocket bike” — a bike that lacks mirrors, lights and plates and is typically used for dirt tracks or off-roading.

“If found on city streets or open spaces, they will be impounded,” police said.
