Powerball player misses $516 million jackpot but wins big in Northern California
A Powerball ticket sold in California won $43,669, just missing the $516 million jackpot, lottery officials say.
The ticket matched four winning numbers and the Powerball in the drawing Wednesday, Nov. 12, the California Lottery said.
California adjusts lottery prizes based on the number of tickets sold and number of winners.
The lucky ticket was sold at Fast and Easy Liquor in Concord, which is about a 30-mile drive northeast from San Francisco, lottery officials said in an email to McClatchy News.
Tickets sold in New Jersey and Virginia won $1 million prizes.
The winning numbers were 29, 39, 43, 51 and 65 with a Powerball of 23. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.
Powerball jackpot rises
Nobody won the jackpot, which rises to an estimated $546 million, with a cash value of about $255 million, for the next drawing Saturday, Nov. 15, the national Powerball site said.
More than 620,000 other Powerball tickets sold in the United States also won prizes ranging from $4 to $100,000, the lottery said.
The Powerball jackpot was last won Sept. 6, when players in Missouri and Texas split the $1.787 billion grand prize.
