Scott Peterson injured in CA prison, reportedly during pickleball game, officials say
Scott Peterson, convicted of murdering his pregnant wife and unborn son, was injured Sunday at a state prison during an “incident,” according to the California Department of Correction and Rehabilitation.
“Scott Peterson was involved in an incident with another person at Mule Creek State Prison and suffered minor injuries,” CDCR spokesperson Todd Javernick wrote in a statement on Tuesday.
Javernick declined to say if a guard or inmate injured Peterson, what entailed and if any others suffered injuries at Mule Creek State Prison. He added Peterson will continue to serve his sentence at the facility in Amador County.
TMZ reported Peterson was playing pickleball with an inmate when a confrontation broke out and an inmate fought him.
The death of Peterson’s wife, Laci Peterson, captured worldwide attention after her dead body washed up from the San Francisco Bay four months after she was reported missing. The 27-year-old was eight months pregnant with their son, Conner, and disappeared from her Modesto home on Christmas Eve in 2002.
Scott Peterson was convicted of double murder in 2004. The California State Supreme Court overturned Peterson’s capital punishment, ruling in 2020 the trial court judge erred while selecting a fair and impartial jury.
Peterson was resentenced and is serving life without parole in prison. Two documentaries released last year on the steaming services Peacock and Netflix breathed new life into his fight for exoneration.
The Los Angeles Innocence Project took up Peterson’s case and represented his case last year in court. The nonprofit filed a series of motions seeking to re-examine key pieces of evidence.
