Woman escapes her accused kidnapper inside Walmart, Oregon police say
A woman called 911 to report she had just escaped from her accused kidnapper inside a Walmart store, Oregon police reported.
The woman told dispatchers she was hiding from him behind the store in the call at 12:12 p.m. Saturday, July 27, the Klamath Falls Police Department said in a news release.
She told officers and sheriff’s deputies who responded to the store that she was abducted in Eugene and the man might be carrying a shotgun and had threatened a shootout with police, the release said.
Two deputies “dressed down” to quietly enter the store and look for the man while authorities contacted Walmart managers to have shoppers and workers discreetly evacuate, police said.
A short time later, officers arrested Troy J. Massa, 53, of Macdoel, California, without incident on charges of kidnapping and coercion, police said. Police did not say whether he was armed.
Investigators in Siskiyou County, California, are assisting in the investigation.
Police ask that anyone with information call 541-883-5336 or leave an anonymous tip at 541-883-5334.
Klamath Falls is about a 280-mile drive southeast from Portland.
