This Central Valley city is one of the fastest growing in US, new Census report says
A Central Valley spot is among the fastest growing cities in the nation, according to new data from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Lathrop was among the top 10 U.S. cities that saw the most population growth from July 1, 2022, to July 1, 2023, according to the government agency.
Most of the top 15 cities that saw the highest population growth during that time period are in the Northeast and Midwest,
Texas had the most cities of any state on the list, with eight boasting rapid population growth, Census data how.
The city of Celina, Texas, had the fastest growing population, gaining 43,317 residents in a year, according to the Census Bureau.
Where is California’s fastest growing city?
Lathrop was the only California city on the Census Bureau’s list of the fastest growing cities in the United States, landing at No. 5.
The Central Valley city is roughly 10 miles south of Stockton in San Joaquin County.
Lathrop saw its population increase by 13.6% from July 1, 2022, to July 1, 2023.
As of July 2023, the city had a population of 39,857 people.

How did Census Bureau come up with its rankings?
The Census Bureau said it came up with its rankings by using “updated housing unit estimates” that are based on the average household population per housing unit.
The list includes cities, towns and townships, according to the government agency.
