California wants Spanish speakers for these state jobs. Here’s what they pay and how to apply
The state of California wants bilingual Spanish-speakers to apply for jobs.
State jobs are known for offering great benefits and enrollment in the nation’s largest state public pension plan.
There are currently 10 state jobs in Sacramento looking for Spanish-speaking applicants. Seven of the positions require you to pass a Spanish fluency certification, which is a verbal test. Certification leads to a $200 monthly bonus.
Agencies may require additional testing for positions that use specialized vocabulary or written skill.
The other three positions prefer that applicants speak some Spanish.
Here’s the list, as of mid February, from CalCareers. Further details on job requirements are linked to the state website. All positions listed are permanent and full time, unless otherwise indicated:

Department: Community Services and Development
Salary: $2,917 - $3,920 per month
The program technician provides general and technical information, in both Spanish and English, to applicants, departmental employees, government agencies, contractors, utility companies and the public regarding the department’s Energy Crises Fast Track and the Home Energy Assistance Program.

Salary: $4,091 - $6,336 per month
The compliance representative resolves income tax accounts, responds to telephone calls and live chats from debtors in Spanish and English, validates accounts for accurate balance, explains assessments and evaluates financial statements.

Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Outreach Worker
Department: Employment Development Department
Salary: $3,534 - $5,500 per month
The farmworker outreach worker promotes EDD programs and services, conducts field visits to ensure employers are in compliance with the Department of Labor and gives presentations at community-based organizations.

Spanish Language Media Relations Specialist
Department: Public Health
Salary: $5,518 - $6,907 per month
The media relations specialist executes public health communications with an emphasis on Spanish-speaking audiences and translates communications materials — news releases, social media posts, and website content.

Salary: $3,308 - $4,145 per month
The accounting technician performs accounting work including fraud prevention and detection, establishment of overpayments, employer and claimant assistance and maintenance of employer and claimant accounts.

The services analyst recommends reimbursement for crime-related expenses in compliance with the state’s victim compensation board’s statutes, regulations and policies.

The investigator explores violations of the California Hazardous Waste Control Law by responding to complaints and tips that allege illegal hazardous waste activities.

The finance assistant provides customer service to CalHFA’s approved lender network as well as industry partners and borrowers, while supporting the day-to-day operations of the lender services team.
