Gov. Gavin Newsom delivered a daily update on the coronavirus outbreak that has killed nearly 1,300 Californians and shut down the state’s economy.

He is speaking as more California cities ask for guidance on when they can begin to reopen their communities.

This week, mayors from Modesto and six other Stanislaus County cities signed a letter to Newsom asking him to allow them more authority over the shutdown. Other requests have come from San Luis Obispo County on the Central Coast and communities east of Los Angeles.
