Did you feel it? 4.4 earthquake in the Sierra Nevada sends waves as far as the Valley

A magnitude-4.4 earthquake shook in the central Sierra Nevada on Sunday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake was felt at 12:20 p.m. in an area called Toms Place, 11 miles southeast of Mammoth Lakes.

According to the USGS, the shaking started about 8 miles deep and produced light movement on the surface. Some shaking could have been felt as far as Fresno and in many foothill communities.

No damage was expected from the earthquake.

In the recent weeks, several earthquakes have been registered in the Western United States. On Friday, The Desert Sun reported a 4.9 earthquake struck near Anza in Southern California.

There was strong shaking in the Palm Springs area and the quake was followed by several aftershocks. Last week, a 6.5 earthquake also shook parts of Idaho and Montana.

The Idaho earthquake rattled cities such as Boise and was the state’s second-largest earthquake in history, according to the Idaho Statesman. It produced about 140 aftershocks.
