Fulton Cycle Works reopened in downtown Hanford Thursday, after a string of burglaries tormented its previous Fresno location near Warnors Theatre in the spring.

“It’s been a good thing,” said co-owner Darren Johnson. “Before this all happened, we were looking at opening a second location in Hanford.”

Thieves broke into the Fresno bike shop five times while at the Fulton location, and the last four break-ins occurred within 10 weeks of each other, Johnson said. After the last “smash-and-grab” in mid-May, Fulton Cycle Works decided enough was enough.

The new facility is nearly the same size as the Fulton shop, but is conveniently located about a block from a Hanford police station and in a better, safer location, Johnson said.

Tentatively, there are some plans in the works to reopen a parts and service shop in Fresno at some point, Johnson said. Full bikes most likely will not be sold there.

Fulton Cycle Works is now located about 40 miles south of its previous shop at 219 N. Irwin St. in Hanford.
