Two local olive oil producers won gold and silver medals at the 2nd annual Joaquin Valley Olive Oil Competition.

Organized by The Big Fresno Fair, the competition received 61 entries from 18 different olive oil producers statewide. The event was judged by a panel of seven judges from the California Olive Oil Council Taste Panel on March 8 in Pleasanton.

Among the local winners in the extra virgin olive oil category were Enzo Olive Oil Company of Clovis and Rosenthal Olive Ranch of Madera.

Enzo won a gold medal for its Tyler Florence Test Kitchen extra virgin olive oil and Rosenthal received a gold for its Arbosana oil.

Silver medals were awarded to Enzo for its Delicate Ranch 11 and its Bold Ranch 11 while Rosenthal won for its Koroneiki olive oil.

“We were very pleased with the amount of entries for last year’s San Joaquin Valley Olive Oil Competition and we are very excited that this year we have surpassed last year’s entry totals,” said Stacy Rianda, deputy manager II at The Big Fresno Fair. “Competitions like this are important as they not only showcase California’s great products, but instill in all of us a sense of pride as we are reminded of all of the wonderful resources our state as a whole and the various communities have to offer.”

Best of show awards were won by The Olive Press of Sonoma for its Picual and Coldani Olive Ranch of Lodi for its Calivirgin Bountiful Basil.
