Sid Cox retires from Fresno bank board
Sid Cox, a longtime Fresno businessman and community leader, has retired from the board of Central Valley Community Bancorp.
The Fresno-based parent company of Central Valley Community Bank announced that Cox’s retirement was effective Wednesday. The bank’s board has named Cox as director emeritus, a role in which he will continue to serve as an adviser to the company. Cox was one of the bank’s founding board members when it was established in 1980.
Cox was a significant player in Fresno’s public relations scene for years, first with Producers Cotton Oil Co. and as the owner of Cox Communications. He has served on the boards of numerous nonprofit community organizations.
Cox also was known as a prodigious fundraiser for community causes, including helping to raise $34 million over a five-year period for Valley Children’s Hospital, where he served on the board for more than two decades.
The Fresno Chamber of Commerce recognized Cox with its highest honor, the Leon S. Peters Award for business leadership and civic contributions, in 2007.
