A Madera County winery received some national attention recently when it was picked by Forbes as one of the 10 best wines of 2015.

Fäsi Estate Winery, just north of Friant, was singled out for its 2010 Fäsi Crest Private Reserve Syrah. The article, written by Katie Kelly Bell, said the “silky syrah made from 100% organic grapes was a nice surprise from a relatively unknown region in California: Madera.”

Bell also praised the $29-a-bottle wine’s anise and tobacco notes, while complimenting its taste as “rich and complex with a nice freshness and long finish.”

Winery manager Erica Magarian was thrilled to find out the wine had been recognized.

“I don’t know how she found out about us, but it is very exciting to be one of the top 10 wines,” Magarian said.

The downside for wine lovers is that the 2010 private reserve syrah was so popular it sold out in two months. The wine also went on to earn a Gold Medal in the San Francisco Wine Competition.

“And it continued to earn incredible reviews from fans across California and around the Madera Appellation wine region,” Magarian said.

Magarian said the winery has new vintages of syrah wines available that are equally as good. The Fäsi Estate Winery & Tasting Room, 42415 Road 208, is open daily from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
