Word on the Street: Gong’s Market opens breastfeeding room for customers/public
Gong’s IGA Market in Sanger opened a breastfeeding room for mothers that’s open to the public.
California law says workplaces must make a reasonable effort to provide a private place – other than a bathroom – to breastfeed or express milk.
The room at Gong’s is open to employees, but goes a step further by being open to customers and the public.
A First 5 Fresno County mini-grant program with the goal of creating breastfeeding-friendly spaces throughout the county helped fund the room. A ribbon-cutting was held Thursday.
Gong’s Market owner Brian Gong says in a news release: “Healthy eating and healthy lifestyles is the direction we are moving towards. Breastfeeding is convenient for my customers and it’s good for the community.”
