The Fresno Grizzlies Taco Truck Throwdown 5 was selected as the Promotion of the Month for August/September by the Minor League Baseball Promotional Seminar.

The promotion beat out more than 50 submissions from other minor league baseball teams and now becomes a finalist for the Best Overall Promotion. The winner will be announced on Oct. 2 at the fifth annual Golden Bobblehead Awards in Columbus, Ohio.

The taco promotion, held on Aug. 6, was hugely popular and attracted a record crowd of 16,916. Along with hosting a contest for best taco, the team was renamed the Fresno Tacos for one night and players wore taco-themed uniforms. The merchandise has been in high demand since its release on July 21 and has been purchased in all 50 states and internationally, including Australia and South Africa.

“We took the annual promotion to a larger scale this season thanks to a lot of the creative minds in our front office,” said Derek Franks, Grizzlies general manager. “The success of the event displayed the ability of our organization to be a catalyst in showcasing downtown Fresno as a place where some of the most talented young people are working.”
