A Fresno mother and daughter who share a love of collecting and refurbishing antiques have started a business that allows others to use their unique stock of furniture, dishes and suitcases.

Something Borrowed Events is the latest in a string of local vintage rental companies matching all things old to make personal and shabby chic statements at weddings, bridal showers and other special events.

The business started in February, just shy of the spring wedding season, but is gaining traction heading into fall wedding time, said Lisa Fisher who owns the business with her mom, Laura Bolduc.

“We are organized hoarders,” said Fisher, who remembers visiting antique stores as a child. “One day, my mom had the idea and said, ‘you know, we should start renting stuff out,’” Fisher said.

The pair have tufted sofas in flower prints, accent chairs, a white buffet table, birdcages, a spool table, an arbor and an ornate white metal gazebo. They also have lighted signs, assorted glassware and chalkboard signs.

“When I got married, I felt like I didn’t have any options for renting things,” Fisher said. “I ended up going to a regular rental place and rented white chairs and table linens.”

These days, weddings are about personal style and the trend is to create a bohemian look that can be a little country, she said. Lounge areas during cocktail hour are popular to have.

Brides don’t have to search for those hard-to-find pieces anymore, Fisher said, because “we have it in stock.”
