Healthcare provider in Fresno County to lay off 48 employees, after shift in services

Centria Autism, a Michigan-based healthcare provider for autistic children, will layoff 48 employees in Fresno County after discontinuing its in-home Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy services in California.

The layoffs are effective July 31, according to a WARN notice issued by the company.

“Our Fresno office is not closing and will remain operational,” a Centria spokesperson said. “Our priority is supporting the families we currently serve through this transition and helping ensure continuity of care. We are committed to working with families, team members, providers and payers to support appropriate transitions.”

ABA therapy is designed to help people with autism and other developmental disorders learn or improve skills including communication and language abilities, social skills, play and leisure skills and motor abilities and self-care and hygiene routines, according to Autism Speaks.

Centria, which operates in 11 states across the country, offers autism screening and diagnosis services, early intervention, ABA therapy and center-based therapy and in-home therapy.
