Word on the Street: Fresno Greek Fest holds logo contest
Fresno Greek Fest is looking for a logo to capture Greek culture and the festival’s attractions, and is asking people to submit up to three separate designs.
The festival first started about 55 years ago as a small dinner with a couple of women making Greek food, said Greek Fest chairman Peterangelo Vallis. It has since grown into a three-day event, he added.
“We’ve actually felt that we should have had a logo a while ago,” Vallis said. “We feel that it has become a real cornerstone event for the city of Fresno.”
This year’s festival is Aug. 28 to 30. Although the winning design won’t be announced until September, it will be ready for future Fresno Greek Fests.
The contest is free to enter. Entrants must be at least 18 and must be individuals, not groups or organizations.
We’re looking for a logo that captures the essence of Greek hospitality and fun in Fresno.

Fresno Greek Fest chairmanEach entry is to consist of two or three files submitted to info@fresnogreekfest.com, with email attachment size limited to 20 MB. Entrants must submit their logo in a scalable vector graphic in ESP format and as a JPG, and may also submit logos in Adobe Illustrator format. The email must also include the entrant’s name, age, address, phone number and email.
A logo must be original and should not be similar to any pre-existing logos. It may contain words, such as Fresno Greek Fest, or it can just be a plain symbol or graphic. If it does have words, they must be stylized.
The logo needs to be flexible, as it must be easily re-sizable and look great in black and white and color for high-quality printing. It should also be able to be pulled apart to use pieces separately.
We’ve actually felt that we should have had a logo a while ago... we feel that it has become a real cornerstone event for the city of Fresno.

“We’re looking for a logo that captures the essence of Greek hospitality and fun in Fresno,” Vallis said. “While people can go to Greece and have a great time… we’re bringing Greece to Fresno.”
