Word on the Street: Fashion Fair Mall has an exhibit on conserving water and energy
From July until Aug. 2, visitors to Fashion Fair Mall can learn about saving energy and water through an interactive exhibit in the mall’s center court, hosted by Energy Upgrade California.
The exhibit is an interactive experience with three parts to it, Energy Upgrade California spokeswoman Jean Vreeland said in an email.
It starts with a video, followed by an iPad display that focuses on a visitor’s energy choices with graphics that can be dragged and dropped to reflect lifestyle, and ends by providing each person with a chance to say why energy matters and to pledge to make changes for energy and water conservation, she said.
The exhibit can take as little as three to five minutes, although visitors can take longer to speak with guides and learn facts, she said. The exhibit opened July 6, and so far it has seen more than 1,000 visitors.
Tips include cutting showers to five minutes or less, saving up to 25 gallons when compared to a 10-minute shower or bath; installing low-flow showerheads to save up to 2,900 gallons of water annually per person; running washing machines with full loads on cold to save energy and money on heating water; and turning off water while brushing teeth to save up to 3,000 gallons a year.
