Kikku Japanese Food won the Downtown Fresno Partnership’s first-ever Restaurant Makeover competition.

Kikku, at 2336 Tulare St., was chosen from five finalists for a makeover worth $25,000. The makeover includes a $2,500 prize for supplies and materials; a marketing, branding and digital ad campaign; and help with drywall, interior design, flooring and the restaurant exterior.

More than 2,000 members of the public and a panel of judges chose the winner.

Silvia Wahyudi said she’s especially looking forward toward replacing their 14-year-old menu board and getting new signs outside.

“We don’t have visible signage,” she said. “People always say our place is hidden.”

She and her husband Andri have run Kikku — which has no connection to nearby Kiku Floral —for 14 years.
