Wells Fargo will hold its HomeLIFT event in Fresno on Saturday with 319 prospective homebuyers each looking to qualify for a $15,000 grant to buy a home.

The bank and Fresno Mayor Ashley Swearengin announced the $7.5 million program in April. The idea is to help qualified low- to moderate-income homebuyers in Fresno, Modesto and Stockton with a forgivable down payment assistance grant as long as the buyer lives in the house for five years.

Appointments for the event were all reserved within days after the program was announced, officials said. HomeLIFT has created more than 9,400 homeowners in 34 housing markets nationwide since 2012.
