Visalia session offers info on teen entrepreneur class

Chambers of commerce in Visalia and Tulare will hold an information session Wednesday evening to recruit students in middle and high school and their parents for an after-school program in entrepreneurship.

The Young Entrepreneurs Academy, or YEA, meeting is from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Visalia Chamber of Commerce, 220 N. Santa Fe St. In the program, students are mentored through the process of brainstorming ideas, drawing up a business plan and are encouraged to develop and run their own business. The application deadline for the 2015-16 program is June 1, and applications are available online from the Visalia Chamber of Commerce website, www.visaliachamber.org.

The nine-month academy is aimed at students in sixth through 12th grades. The classes meet once a week at College of the Sequoias in Visalia beginning in September through graduation in May. Enrollment is limited to 20 students each year. Tuition for the program is $295 per student and includes books and supplies.
