Granville Urban Development’s latest residential apartment structure in downtown Fresno is going up near the former Fresno Met building.

The Lede is scheduled for opening late this year. The Met currently houses Community Media Access Collaborative, and was originally home to The Fresno Bee and Fresno’s first commercial radio and television stations.

The apartment building’s name is an homage to the block’s history in journalism. The “lede” is the introductory paragraph of a news story, a term that dates to the days of letterpress printing using lead type. The journalistic lede is intentionally misspelled to avoid confusion with the strip of metal used to position letterpress type.
