Sweet Tomatoes’ parent company has filed for bankruptcy and is closing poorly performing restaurants nationwide – but Fresno is not among them, according to the company.

“No, there are no plans to close the Sweet Tomatoes in Fresno,” said Don Cowan, the director of communications for Garden Fresh Restaurant Corp. on Thursday.

The San Diego-based company, which also owns Souplantation restaurants, plans to close 20 to 30 restaurants amid declining sales and has put itself up for sale, according to Nation’s Restaurant News.

Fresno has one Sweet Tomatoes restaurant at 7114 N. Fresno St. near Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.

There used to be another Sweet Tomatoes on West Shaw Avenue, but that restaurant closed in 2010 and was later torn down to make way for Texas Roadhouse.
