Parlier company recalling cucumbers
A Parlier produce company is voluntarily recalling all cucumbers sold under the Fat Boy label as part of a nationwide recall related to an outbreak of salmonella.
Custom Produce Sales officials said the recall covers cucumbers sold as of Aug. 1, 2015. No other Fat Boy products are covered by the recall. Unlabeled cucumbers packed into a black reusable plastic container that were sold in Nevada as of Aug. 1 are also part of the recall.
Custom Produce says it’s working with health authorities on the recall that is associated with an outbreak of salmonella poona. The outbreak has spread to 30 states and caused 341 illnesses, including two deaths.
Custom Produce says it has contacted all customers who may have received affected cucumbers.
Fat Boy cucumbers were produced in Baja California and distributed in California, Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma and Texas. The cucumbers are shipped in a carton that reads “Fat Boy Fresh Produce.”
The recalled variety often is referred to as a “slicer” or “American” cucumber. It has a dark green color. It typically has a length of 7 to 10 inches and a diameter of 1.75 to 2.5 inches.
Consumers who bought Fat Boy cucumbers are urged to return them to the place of purchase or to dispose of them. Consumers with questions may contact Custom Produce by visiting the company website at www.customproducesales.com or by calling the company at 559-254-5860.
