Solano Land Trust offers full slate of July hikes, volunteer events
Solano Land Trust invites the public to get outdoors in July with a variety of guided hikes, volunteer opportunities, family activities, and an evening of stargazing at its open-space preserves throughout the county.
The month begins on July 4 with a guided nature hike at Vallejo Swett Ranches from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Docents will lead participants through the hills between Fairfield, Benicia, and Vallejo while sharing information about local birds, butterflies, and other wildlife. The moderately strenuous hike has limited space, and registration is recommended.
Volunteer opportunities start July 10 with a Community Science Native Plant Garden Workday at Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space Park from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Volunteers will help maintain the native plant garden through weeding, mulching, irrigation maintenance, and other restoration projects.
Two events are scheduled for July 11. A guided nature hike at Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space Park runs from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., featuring scenic views, native plants, and wildlife along a 4- to 6-mile moderately strenuous route. Also, that morning, volunteers can join the Trail Crew at Lynch Canyon Open Space from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to help improve trails, repair fences, and complete other park projects. No experience is required.
Astronomy enthusiasts can gather July 17 from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. at Rush Ranch Open Space for Astronomy Night with astronomer Jon Pannier. The monthly program includes a presentation followed by guided stargazing.
Families are invited to Rush Ranch on July 18 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for "Get the Rush," a free monthly event featuring blacksmithing demonstrations, wagon rides, guided marsh walks, exhibits, and other hands-on activities.
The month concludes on July 25 with two events. A five-mile guided hike at Lynch Canyon Open Space begins at 8:30 a.m. and follows the Middle Valley Trail to Prairie Ridge. Volunteers can participate in a Trail Crew service day at Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space Park from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Registration is recommended for most events and required for the July 25 hike at Lynch Canyon and the volunteer service day at Patwino Worrtla Kodoi Dihi Open Space Park.
