Eat for a good cause with these foodie fundraisers
What’s better than delicious food?
Delicious food that raises money for a good cause. A handful of food- and wine-related fundraisers are happening this weekend.
Fresno State
Fresno State will show off its newest wines – and its newest winemakers – at a fundraiser Saturday.
The Taste of Spring event runs from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, April 9, at the Fresno State winery, 2360 E. Barstow Ave. Tickets cost $15 for the public and $10 for students, faculty and Fresno State Wine Club members.
The event is a meet-and-greet with the graduating class of winemakers, many of whom will go on to become notable players in the wine industry, says Kevin Smith, the winery’s marketing director.
Wines available for tasting at the event include 2011 Saviez Syrah, 2012 Tempranillo, 2012 Sangiovese, 2012 Zinfandel, 2013 Pinot Gris, 2013 White Zinfandel and the 2013 SJ Chardonnay.
Students will lead tours of the winery, and live music and lawn games will happen on the lawn overlooking the vineyards.
The money raised goes to the Ag Foundation, which supports the academic endeavors of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology.

Buffalo Wild Wings
Eating at Buffalo Wild Wings Wednesday, April 13, will help out the Boys & Girls Club of Fresno County.
Ten percent of the day’s total restaurant sales at the restaurant at 3331 W. Shaw Ave. will go toward the club, along with any donations made by diners. The organizers’ goal is to raise $3,000.
The event includes a raffle of a beach chair, golf bags, shirts and hats.
Kids from the Boys & Girls Club will be singing and dancing to “Be Our Guest” from 4-9 p.m.
Make-A-Wish
Eating pancakes is downright philanthropic if you eat them at the Make-A-Wish fundraiser at Applebee’s from 8-10 a.m. Sunday, April 10.
The event – at the Applebee’s at Cedar and Herndon avenues – includes pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon or sausage, orange juice or coffee for $10.
Half the proceeds go toward Make-A-Wish Central California. The organization grants wishes to children with a life-threatening medical condition, like meeting a favorite singer or attending a Major League Baseball All-Star Game in San Diego.
Tickets must be purchased ahead of time by calling or texting (559) 281-9115.
