Club Habanos is closing Sunday, Feb. 21.

The bar and nightclub has been open in the North Pointe shopping center at the southwest corner of Palm and Herndon avenues for 18 years.

Club Habanos announced the closure on its Facebook page. It said, in part: “We simply could not come to agreement with the landlord on many issues. No smoking out front? No live music? No theme parties? No special events? NO FUN it goes against everything we are as a business..... so after 18 years of hazy memories, it’s time to move on.”

Disagreements between the owner of the club and the shopping center appear to have led to Club Habanos calling it quits.

The shopping center owner declined to comment in detail about the situation, but said there’s more to the story than the Facebook post.

The shopping center has undergone several changes in recent years, bringing in new businesses such as The Bar Method and upscale restaurants Cracked Pepper Bistro and Parma Ristorante.

Adela Padron, who owns Club Habanos with her family, said the public may not have seen the last of them. The family has always wanted to run a business that serves food and was planning to look for a new location at the end of its lease.

They could reopen elsewhere – “eventually,” she says. First, the family is going to take a long vacation.

In the meantime, the club is inviting customers out this weekend to say goodbye.

“We hope you stop in for one last shot or four,” the post says.
