The Curry Pizza Company has become a familiar favorite in Fresno, with its butter chicken pizza and pies loaded with pepperoni.
Now the Fresno company has opened a fourth restaurant in Fresno with something its never done had before: a bar.
The restaurant opened at the southeast corner of Belmont and Fowler avenues near Starbucks Monday serving its regular menu of Indian and American pizza (complete with vegan cheese options), wings and loaded fries.
A large bar also serves beer and cocktails.
Owner Malhi Singh said that part of town needed a bar and he was looking to do something different with his latest restaurant.
“We could make some cool drinks,” he said. “We didn’t want to expand the food menu; we wanted to stick with pizza and wings.”
Twelve taps serve everything from Coors beer to locally brewed Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co.
But the cocktail menu with the local flair is what’s really different about this location.
The cocktails include drinks such as Sunnyside Spice and Fresno Heatwave. There’s a Tower District Sour and a Punjabi Espresso.
That Sunnyside Spice is a nod to the neighborhood and to the owner of Sunnyside Liquor, a buddy of Singh’s. It features tequila, mango purée, lime juice and Tajín seasoning on the rim.
Several drinks are made with quality tequilas such as Patron or Tito’s.
Some are garnished with a curry leaf.
Cocktails regularly cost $12, though many are discounted during the grand opening month. There are also shooters — mixed shots for $10.
The Old Town Green Tea, for example, is made with whiskey, peach schnapps, sour mix and lemon-lime soda.

The location at 6050 E. Grant Ave. is the latest to open, and is the in same building as a Starbucks with a drive-thru and a Subway.
It’s open from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.
Next door, El Flaco Taqueria & Carniceria will open its meat market and restaurant in a few months.
The building is a project by Lance Kashian, the company that developed and runs River Park.
In a separate project closer to Belmont, work is just starting on what will become a 7-Eleven.
The new Curry Pizza Company is the 10th one, most of them between here and Los Angeles (with one in Texas).
Another location is planned for Campus Pointe, the shopping center next to Fresno State. It will take over the spot that Pieology Pizziera left behind when it closed.
If all goes well, they may open a bar at that location also, Malhi said.
He’s also considering offering more than 60 flavors of chicken wings at that location. There are around 20 now.
It’s expected to open at the end of this year or early next year.
