“Girl dinner” has gone so mainstream you can now order it at restaurants in the Fresno area.

The term went viral on the internet recently for that thing that women do when their meat-and-potatoes-loving partners are away and they just don’t feel like cooking.

They eat a combination of snacks that’s just healthy enough to make up a meal, usually with a glass of something alcoholic involved. (And they usually while eat it while planted in front of their favorite TV show or movie.)

So, a plate filled with enough cheese, crackers, pickles and wine to fill them up.

Or maybe a charcuterie board.

The term ripped through TikTok and made it to Merriam Webster online, where one example of it included this description from Threads user @imnotready4thissheet: “Girl dinner should look like a feral raccoon was given access to your kitchen. Girl Dinner should not include cooking or using anything but a knife to prepare it.”

Somewhere along the line, girl dinner evolved to become a Caesar salad, french fries and a drink. It’s different, but still has all the main pillars of the meal: Low effort, yummy and satisfying, and healthy enough.

Several Fresno-area restaurants are jumping on the trend as a way to attract customers, usually with low price.
