Another Five Guys Burgers and Fries closes in Fresno. What’s next for the space?

The Five Guys Burgers and Fries in the Marketplace at El Paseo in Fresno has closed.

The restaurant shut its doors in the shopping center near Highway 99 and Herndon Avenue in recent days. It was next to a nail salon and dentist offices facing Riverside Drive, near Dutch Bros.

The 2,700-square-foot restaurant opened in 2016.

Five Guys did immediately return a message seeking comment.

It’s not clear why it closed.

At least two people on the neighborhood Nextdoor app complained about the prices of the food. The northwest Fresno location’s menu is no longer online. But a burger at the River Park location costs $11.79 if ordered online for pickup. A “little” hamburger with just one patty costs $8.99.

Five Guys once had a location at Campus Pointe near Fresno State. That restaurant closed in 2021 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Other Five Guys restaurants remain open at River Park and Fashion Fair in Fresno, and in Clovis. El Paseo is also home to other burger restaurants, including McDonald’s and the locally owned Main Street Burgers. That restaurant took over when Wayback Burgers closed.

The former Five Guys at El Paseo is up for rent, said Lewis Smith, senior vice president of NEWMARK Retail California.

“We just started marketing the space for potential tenants,” he said. “It’s great retail space in a fantastic shopping center, so we expect to have a lot of interest.”
