Fancher Creek closer to opening in Fresno as stores start hiring

Stores at the long-awaited Fancher Creek shopping center in southeast Fresno are one step closer to opening as they start hiring employees.

None of the major retailers or restaurants have released specific opening dates, but both Target and Sprouts confirmed they are hiring as of the first week of September — a sure sign that they are close to opening.

Fancher Creek Town Center has been in the works for more than 20 years.

Target, Sprouts and In-N-Out will be among the first to open at the center at Clovis and Tulare avenues. For more than a year, officials have been projecting an opening around October.

The parking lot is ready and the outside of the Target store is complete. It has a modern exterior, with signs for its drive-up service and a shade structure ready to go.

Signs are also up for the Sprouts store, although construction is still happening on the building.

A Sprouts representative said it is planning a November opening.

And the shell of the In-N-Out restaurant is built near the corner. Work is still happening inside and on the drive-thru. The signature crossed palm trees are planted out front.

In-N-Out said it plans to open this year, but doesn’t have a specific opening date yet.

Target is hiring for all kinds of positions at https://corporate.target.com/careers.

They include cashiers, cart attendants and shelf stockers starting at $18.25 an hour. Higher paying open positions include security guards and a food and beverage team leader.

Sprouts is also hiring for store #470.

Positions include assistant store manager, and assistant managers and clerks in several departments, including produce, bakery, bulk foods and deli.

Pay for cashiers and clerks mostly ranges from $16.55 to $20.75 an hour.

Applicants can apply online. Sprouts is also holding a hiring event with interviews from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 23 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Fresno Convention Center, 2233 Cesar Chavez Blvd.

In-N-Out said it typically starts accepting applications about four to six weeks before opening. It recommends interested applicants frequently check www.in-n-out.com/employment for job openings.

The fast-food restaurant is known for its starting wage of $22 an hour.

“Raises can be earned quickly from there,” Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said in an emailed statement to The Bee.

The restaurant expects to hire between 50 and 60 employees before opening, and continue to hire as needed in the following months.

Other businesses coming to Fancher Creek

The entire Fancher Creek development also includes two apartment complexes that are already open.

Other big stores committed to opening at the center are Michaels and PetSmart.

Chipotle Mexican Grill and HomeGoods have been in lease negotiations to open at the center.

Former Fresno City councilmember Luis Chavez (now a county supervisor), who represented the district for the past eight years, has also said that a Dutch Bros, Starbucks and a sit-down restaurant are in the works.
