All Rite Aid stores in Fresno area are closing soon. Here’s the list
All Rite Aid stores in Fresno are closing — along with several in surrounding cities.
In all, at least 17 stores in the central San Joaquin Valley are closing.
The drug store chain filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in May for the second time in recent history and is looking for a buyer.
The store, which has struggled to keep up with competitors CVS and Walgreens, hasn’t been able to keep its shelves fully stocked, noted Neil Saunders, managing director of research firm GlobalData in an email.
“This in turn deters customers, which reduces sales and squeezes cash flow,” he said. “Sadly, the chain has now reached the bottom of this vicious cycle and bankruptcy is the only route available to it.”
Its competitors aren’t in a good position to buy the entire company, he said (Walgreens has closed three stores in the Fresno area recently, and CVS closed its downtown store). But they may cherry pick specific Rite Aid locations, especially in rural locations, he said.
Only time will tell which locations survive, with Rite Aid already announcing several waves of store closures. Only a handful of locations in small cities surrounding Fresno have been spared from closure so far.
In all, eight stores in Fresno are closing along with another three across the Valley. The stores have already transferred prescriptions to other pharmacies.
Rite Aid is closing more than 900 stores nationwide — about 75% of its locations.
What stores are closing?
The Rite Aid stores that have already closed in Fresno, include:
- 4593 N. Cedar Ave. (near Gettysburg Avenue).
- 4224 E. Shields Ave. (near Cedar Avenue).
- 8027 N. Cedar Ave. (near Nees Avenue).
- 3795 W. Shields Ave. (near Brawley Avenue).
The following stores are closing soon:
- 1210 N. Blackstone Ave. (near Olive Avenue) on July 10.
- 2011 W. Shaw Ave. (near West Avenue) on July 14.
- 1101 Fresno St. (near B Street) on July 22.
- 2020 E. Copper Ave. (near Maple Avenue) on July 20.
Outside of Fresno, the company also plans to close its Hanford store on July 9, its Madera and Reedley stores on July 13 and the Chowchilla store on July 23.
Stores in Selma, Kerman, Dinuba, Lemoore and Chowchilla are closing, as well.
Where do I get my prescription now?
Rite Aid has already transferred customers’ prescriptions to other stores, including non-Rite Aid stores. Prescriptions can also be retrievd from any pharmacy of a customers’ choice. Here’s where they’ve already been transferred to and the new store’s phone number.
