Fresnans have been waiting for the popular Randy’s Donuts to open the first of two locations in Fresno, and now the Southern California based company is open.

The donut shop at 2369 E. Shaw Ave. will held its grand opening at 6 a.m. April 15.

Randy’s is across the street from Fresno State and in the same building as the Red Wave Inn.

It will be the first of three Randy’s to open in the area.

Another is opening soon in Fresno at the northeast corner of Palm and Bullard avenues. The company has not released an exact opening date.

A third is headed for Clovis, though Randy’s has not confirmed the location.

The original Randy’s is known for appearing in films, most notably “Iron Man 2” where Robert Downey Jr. noshes on a powdered donut in his Iron Man suit while perched in the middle of the 32-foot-wide donut sign atop the building. The company calls itself “the most recognized donut shop in the world,” (though Dunkin’ and Krispy Kreme might argue with that).

The Fresno locations have smaller versions of the donut signs on their buildings.

Randy’s most popular donut is the butter crumb raised donut, topped with a mixture of flour, butter, and sugar. People say it looks like the donut on the roof.

Randy’s will give away free glazed donuts until noon or until supplies run out at the grand opening.
