Chick-fil-A wants to open its first restaurant in Clovis. Here’s what we know so far
Popular fast food restaurant Chick-fil-A wants to open its first location in Clovis, according to paperwork filed with the City of Clovis.
The company has taken the first step in the planning application process to build a restaurant on Shaw Avenue, between Willow and Peach avenues, the city confirmed Monday.
Chick-fil-A wants to construct a 4,852-square-foot restaurant with a double-lane drive-thru on an empty lot at the southwest corner of Helm and Shaw avenues, just west of a car wash and in front of the TownePlace Suites Fresno Clovis Hotel, according to its application.
It would be the third Chick-fil-A in the area, with an existing location at Blackstone and Nees avenues and another in front of Fashion Fair mall, both in Fresno.
There’s no timeline yet for when a restaurant might open, if it receives all the proper approvals.
“The City of Clovis is thrilled that Chick-fil-A has chosen to come to our city,” said Chad McCollum, economic development, housing, and communications director for the City of Clovis. “Not only will Chick-fil-A bring another delicious food option to our community, but it will also bring more jobs and support for our local economy.”
The restaurant is known for its chicken sandwiches and people willing to wait in long lines of cars for them, despite being closed on Sundays and facing backlash for its owners’ donations to organizations opposed to same-sex marriage in the past.
Chick-fil-A’s application shows the restaurant abutting Shaw Avenue with a parking lot just south of it with 79 spaces — more than the required 65. Cars would enter the drive-thru from the parking lot, with the dual drive-thru lanes winding around three sides of the restaurant and exiting into the parking lot.
The restaurant would have 70 seats indoors and 24 outdoor seats.
Shaw Avenue in Clovis has been attracting some big-name eateries in recent years, including Raising Cane’s, The Human Bean, a new style of Panda Express and a Vallarta supermarket.
Mom-and-pop restaurants have been opening too, including Le Banh Mi Bistro.
