Old Town Clovis to get a craft beer bar with familiar name — and it’ll have a restaurant

House of Pendragon Brewing Co. is headed for Old Town Clovis — and it will have a lot more than beer.

It will have a restaurant for the first time, specializing in barbecue.

The 11-year-old business is taking over the spot formerly occupied by The Craft House, at the northwest corner of Pollasky Avenue and Eighth Street. The Craft House recently moved a few doors down to 836 Pollasky Ave. into The Third Place building.

If all goes as planned, the House of Pendragon Co. Beer Garden and BBQ will open in early March.

It will have 24 taps serving its Lancelot IPA, White Walker seltzer and other beers.

House of Pendragon, whose brewery is based in Sanger, has had a bar before. It had a tasting room at Willow and Nees avenue in Clovis for eight years.

Founder and owner Tommy Caprelian closed that down with hopes of opening a new spot in the under-construction Loma Vista Marketplace at Shaw and Leonard avenues.

“It took a while and it didn’t really pan out financially for us,” he said.

So he ditched those plans and turned to the Old Town location instead — this time with a barbecue restaurant.

“This is a much better location for us,” he said.

Barbecuing is favorite pastime of his.

“It’s been something I’ve wanted to do for years,” he said. “Besides brewing, barbecue is kinda my passion; my side hobby.”

Caprelian has hired Devin Rector, a professional chef with experience at restaurants outside the state, including in Washington, and running his own barbecue trailer parked at breweries.

“He knows what he’s doing and he’s really in line with the type of barbecue I like doing,” he said.

The restaurant will have a menu focused on central Texas barbecue — but there will be California tri-tip available too.

Some possible menu options: brisket fries, brisket tacos and pulled pork nachos.

Caprelian is in the process of building a beer garden in the back of the building that will double the seating capacity.

“It’s going to feel kinda homey,” he said. “It’s going to be real nice and cozy and rustic.”

And of course, all the favorite things from the Clovis tasting room will be back, including the Knights of the Round Table club, trivia nights and more, he said.

The Sanger taproom at 1849 Industrial Way, where the beer is also brewed, remains open to the public.
