A Fresno restaurant is nation’s No. 1 spot for Mediterranean delivery, says DoorDash
A Fresno restaurant is the No. 1 favorite spot in the country to get Mediterranean food delivered by DoorDash.
Mayd Modern Mediterranean landed on the delivery app’s America’s Favorite Delivery Spots of 2024. The Top 10 list is broken down by cuisine, with Mayd earning the top spot in the Mediterranean cuisine category.
DoorDash chose small or medium restaurants of various cuisines that had the highest average overall customer rating and at least 1,000 reviews between November 2023 through November 2024.
Just two restaurants in California made the list (the other was Domenico’s Italian Kitchen in Beaumont).
Mayd opened in 2021 at Palm and Herndon avenues, and though it’s got just the one location, its owners have several other restaurants around town that are making a name for themselves — with a new coffee shop and bistro coming soon.
Mayd Modern Mediterranean’s menu and more restaurants from its owners
Mayd is a quick-service, order-at-the-counter restaurant next to the Dutch Bros Coffee on the corner.
Its menu has all kinds of bowls — including a build-your-own option — topped with lamb meatballs, chicken, tri-tip shawarma, shrimp and lots of Mediterranean-flavored vegetables.
There are also salads, grain bowls, and “naakos.” Naakos are like tacos, but instead of a tortilla, naan bread holds the contents of the taco.
DoorDash users highly rate the Greens + Grains bowl and the wood-fired naan.
Mayd also won The Fresno Bee’s poll of best new restaurants in 2021.
The restaurant used to be a Butterfish poke restaurant before it was converted to Mayd.
Mayd and Butterfish are owned by Brandon Smittcamp and Kevin and Rema Koligian. The trio also own Heirloom, the popular north Fresno restaurant, and the Butterfish locations at Friant Road and Fresno Street in Fresno, and Herndon and Fowler in Clovis.
They also own Saizon, the high-end restaurant making a name for itself at Willow and Shepherd avenues.
Separately, Smittcamp owns The Lime Lite in central Fresno and Dos Pescados in Aptos.
The trio is also gearing up to open OtherSide, a coffeehouse, bakery and bistro in the same shopping center as Saizon, The Row at Heritage Grove.
The sign is up on OtherSide and its Instagram page says it will open “soonish.”
