There’s a lot more than sneakers inside the new Nike store that’s about to open in Fresno’s River Park.

The store opens at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The 14,000-square-foot gray building was built on the site of the Macaroni Grill restaurant Blackstone and El Paso avenues that was torn down three years ago.

Technically it’s called a Nike Unite store.

There will be plenty of hoopla on opening day. That includes a DJ throughout grand opening weekend. The store will also give away free gifts with purchase while supplies last.

People often line up for Nike’s store openings. An opening last year in Silver Spring, Maryland, had a line that wrapped around the building, for example.

What is a Nike Unite store?

You don’t have to be the type to stand in line for newly released sneakers that cost hundreds of dollars to shop here.

It has shoes, yes, but also a lot more.

It has clothing and footwear for men, women and children — both shoes designed for sports and everyday wear.

It also has clothing for yoga, running, soccer, basketball and other fitness classes. That includes bras and leggings, fleece clothing, T-shirts, accessories and all kinds of tops and bottoms.

Nike Classics shoes and Jordan products are available.

It’s not considered an outlet store, like the Nike Factory stores at the outlets in Tulare and Gilroy, but has value-driven prices.

Each store is localized, with images of Fresno inside this one.

The store will also partner with organizations in the community to support coaching and mentoring for youth sports programs.

The Nike Unite store is at 7650 N. Blackstone Ave.

Once it’s open, its regular hours will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.
