Brunch and cocktails overlooking the trail? Clovis steakhouse owners want to open new spot
Could you sip a brunchtime mimosa and eat some eggs while gazing at a tree-lined trail in Clovis?
Such a place is in the works.
It’s still a long way off, but the owners of 13 Prime Steak recently received approval to move forward with their plans for a breakfast and lunch restaurant with a full bar and a patio.
The restaurant, called Yolked Kitchen, would be in the Parkway Trails shopping center. The owners’ popular high-end steakhouse, which opened in 2018, is on the same corner, at the northeast corner of Willow and Nees avenues.
The new restaurant would be a few doors down, in what was once Mr. Sushi #2.
Yolked Kitchen owners Falina and John D. Marihart applied for a conditional-use permit with the City of Clovis for a full-service restaurant that would be open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays, according to documents submitted to the city.
It would have a full bar that could serve beer, wine and distilled spirits.
The Mariharts did not return a message seeking comment about their specific menu, but plans call for the type of liquor license that would allow them to serve mimosas and other cocktails with brunch.
Plans also detail removing the existing patio and remodeling to create a patio that wraps around two sides of the restaurant facing the Old Town Clovis Trail.
The 2,500-square-foot restaurant, which is currently empty, would have an 828-square-foot outdoor patio.
Only dining, not live music, entertainment or outdoor speakers, would be allowed on the patio, according to the permit.
“It was really a no-brainer for us to choose this location,” John D. Marihart said during the March 20 Clovis planning commission meeting.
“We love Clovis,” he said. “We love the Clovis way of life.”
Such a restaurant could be many months — or perhaps more — away from opening.
The owners would still need to finish finalizing a liquor license for the spot, get approval for their plans from the city and do the remodeling.
