Another prime spot in downtown Fresno is being renovated. Here’s who’s behind the change

Another building in the heart of the Brewery District is being renovated and will soon be home to a new business.

The Downtown Auto Care building is on the southeast corner of Fulton and Inyo streets. It’s right across Fulton from Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co.’s beer garden.

Developer Reza Assemi and tech entrepreneur Jamin Brazil partnered to buy the building and renovate it.

It’s two doors down from their other recent project, the renovation of the historic Sun Stereo Warehouse. That building was recently renovated and is almost full of new businesses and offices, with a new pink neon sign out front.

As for the auto shop building, — it’s the one with the “Complete car care” sign out front — no renter has been selected yet.

The owners are looking for a single tenant for the spot, which is just under 5,000 square feet, plus a parking area that could also be used as a courtyard or patio.

Assemi said he’d like to see something that fits with the Brewery District’s growing number of entertainment and food and drink options.

“Whether it’s a restaurant, bar, brewery — some nightlife like that,” he said. “Something that helps activate the corner and goes with all the momentum that’s already going on in the Brewery District.“

The major renovations have already happened. That includes cleaning out the space, removing auto shop equipment like hoists, and redoing ceilings and walls. The red brick is now exposed and the building is an empty shell.

More work still needs to be done, but the owners want to identify a renter before building it out to their specific needs.

The building has several large bays with garage doors. Those will be replaced with glass windows, Assemi said.

“That whole thing will be glass. It will be like a fishbowl,” he said. “It will be really cool.”

Not a lot is known about the building’s history. It’s not a historic spot and may be about 60 years old, Assemi estimated.
