The popular Mexican Pizza officially comes back to Taco Bell restaurants everywhere Thursday — but you don’t have to wait til then to get one.

We know a couple ways you can get one early.

The much-beloved menu item was removed from Taco Bell’s menus in 2020, inspiring outrage nationwide and a petition with more than 170,000 signatures begging the fast food chain to bring it back. It was back on menus last spring, but quickly sold through a planned six-month supply before once again being taken off the menu.

Taco Bell has said it will return to menus as a permanent offering starting Thursday.

The Mexican Pizza, which does not even pretend to be an authentic Mexican dish, is a blend of seasoned beef and refried beans sandwiched between two fried flour tortillas and topped with pizza sauce, a three-cheese blend and diced tomatoes.

It’s a dish that has a nearly cult following, with fans quick to take to the internet to share their thoughts about every little twist of this ongoing story. (It’s so popular it’s even inspired a musical featuring Dolly Parton and Doja Cat.)

And it’s worth noting that every time we share a story about the Mexican Pizza, someone inevitably howls, “How is this serious journalism?” Answer: It’s not. It’s a quick feature story telling our readers — who have made it clear they want Mexican Pizza — how to get it.

How to get it

But back to how to get your hands (or more accurately, your mouths) on the Mexican Pizza.

Taco Bell is offering early access that started Tuesday and continues Wednesday to rewards members who download their app for in-store or drive-through orders.

But you may not even need that.

This reporter (who did not have the app) noticed it was on the drive-thru menu at the Shaw and West avenues location Tuesday evening. The sticker on the menu saying the Mexican Pizza would return Thursday had been removed.

She asked for it and was given one, no questioned asked, no app needed.

Now, we can’t guarantee this will be the case at every location, of course. If you really want to be safe, download the app.

But if you don’t have it, it can’t hurt to try.
