A new building under construction at the northeast corner of Bullard Avenue and First Street has people wondering who’s coming to the neighborhood.

It’s Starbucks.

The coffee shop is being built on an empty lot just to the west of the shopping center and the empty Rite-Aid.

Permit applications to the city of Fresno confirm a 3,592-square-foot Starbucks with a drive-thru and patio is being built on the spot.

It will probably be many months – or maybe next year – before the location opens.

Will it be open 24 hours?

In permit applications to the city of Fresno in December and March, the drive-thru is listed as being open 24 hours.

But in later re-submittals, the 24-hour aspect isn’t mentioned. Neither Starbucks nor a representative of the city’s planning department returned messages seeking comment, so it’s not clear if Starbucks is still plans to keep the drive-thru open all night.

The coffee shop is in the same shopping center as a Subway that is open 24 hours.

Although Starbucks locations that are open 24 hours are unusual, they’re not unheard of.

Modesto has a Starbucks that is open all night next to a gas station and hospital, for example.
