Half Dome is the name of a hot pastrami and provolone cheese sandwich at a new sandwich shop that recently opened in northwest Fresno.

The sandwich shop, Yosemite Deli, is a nod to Yosemite National Park, with sandwiches named after the park’s most famous features.

The restaurant is between Starbucks and Señor Ají Peruvian Kitchen, near the southwest corner of Herndon and Milburn avenues.

It opened earlier this month. But neighbors may remember the spot as home to the Deli Delicious that was there for years (and before that, a Quiznos).

Owner Vahid Misaghi said his contract with Deli Delicious was terminated and he opened the new concept July 12.

The new menu includes other creative Yosemite-themed options, like Yosemite Fire Fall (a spicy chicken sandwich) and Glacier Point (a turkey, bacon and avocado sandwich).

“I was raised here and Yosemite is a big part of Fresno,” he said of naming the restaurant after the park.

The food

All the sandwiches are made with bread from the Basque French Bakery downtown.

Several hot and cold sandwiches are available too, including tri-tip and French dip. Salads are also on the menu.

Yosemite Deli has a vegan option called the “Planterian,” made with turkey, cheese and mayo – all vegan.

“Once we start picking up plant-based customers, we’ll start picking up more plant-based options,” Misaghi said.

Fried food is newly on the menu too, including chicken strips, mozzarella sticks, beer battered onion rings and more.

Details: Yosemite Deli is at 6701 N. Milburn Ave., suite 120. Hours: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sundays. 559-293-4146.
