From African restaurants to vegan food trucks, Fresno has almost two dozen Black-owned eateries.

Though Fresnans love their restaurant chains, they also like to support locally-owned businesses, especially small family-owned ones.

In honor of Black History Month, we thought we’d take a look at Fresno-area eateries with Black owners. We also keep in mind that Black-owned businesses have long faced challenges like historic underinvestment and systemic racism.

The businesses in our poll include restaurants, food trucks, bars and a brewery. Some are small and operate under the radar. Others are heavy hitters in Fresno’s food scene.

If it feels like some familiar names might be missing from the list, you could be right. The last few years have been tough on business and several Black-owned restaurants and food trucks have either closed or moved.

But we still have plenty here cooking up good food.

Tell us who your favorite is in our poll below. If there are places you haven’t heard of, feel free to check them out. If we missed anybody, click the “other” option and type in your choice.

Voting ends at 6 a.m. Monday and we’ll let you know the results soon after.
